HARRY AVARD, Royal Engineers, 12, Hampden Avenue, 1918 aged 31

C J P BREACH, Serjeant, Royal Garrison Artillery, died on 5 July 1917 . Age 31 .  Of Littlecot, Station Rd; assistant Master of the Council School.  The headteacher also went to war and is mentioned below.

ERNEST DAVIS, Lance Corporal Royal Sussex Regiment, died on 31 July 1917 . Age 23, of 3, Elm Grove.  His father was also an ex-soldier; a Royal Engineers pensioner.

EDWARD CLIFTON GORRINGE  MC, Captain Royal Sussex Regiment died on 5 Sept 1918 . Age 32 .  He lived in "Rowfant" in Brodrick Rd.

HERBERT ALFRED HENTY, Private Royal Sussex Regiment, died on 10 July 1916 . Age 19 . Son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Henty, of Hampden Park Lodge.

HORACE WILLIAM MARSHAM, Able Seaman H.M.S. "Queen Mary.", Royal Navy, who died on 31 May 1916 . Age 19.  Son of Harry and Frances Rowena Marsham, of 6, Brodrick Rd.  Killed at the Battle of Jutland.

WILLIAM GEORGE PATTENDEN, Royal Sussex Regiment, died on 9 June 1916 . Age 19.  Son of George and Ann Pattenden, of 19, Station Rd.

JAMES MICHAEL PENFOLD, Drummer  Royal Sussex Regiment,  died on  15 June 1919 . Age 29.  Son of John and Harriet Penfold, of Fletton Cottage, Elm Grove.  Served and died in India.

Fred PREBBLE, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, who died on 11 June 1919 . Age 36 .Son of John and Sarah Prebble, of Folkestone; husband of Maud Beatrice Prebble, of 43, Glynde Avenue.

ALBERT THOMAS RUDKIN, Able Seaman H.M.S. "Invincible.", Royal Navy, died on 31 May 1916 . Age 19. Son of Mrs. E. G. Reynolds, of 1, Brickfield Cottage.  Killed at the Battle of Jutland.

WILLIAM GEORGE TUGWELL, Royal Sussex Regiment, died on Friday 30 June 1916 . Age 18 .  Son of William and Eliza Tugwell, of 7, Brodrick Rd.

FRY, RICHARD, Royal Sussex Regiment, Aged 23, on 30th June 1916 of  18 Artizans dwellings.  Son of Jesse and Mary Ann Fry.

IRONS, WILLIAM, Royal Sussex Regiment, Aged 24, died on 1st July 1916.  Son of William Charles and Agnes Irons, of The Stables. Hampden Park. Lived in Edgeland Terrace in 1911.

TURTON, STANLEY ARTHUR, Corporal Royal, Sussex Regiment, aged 36, died on 19th August 1918. Son of Arthur and Maria Turton, and husband of Grace Victoria Lomas Turton, of 19, Mayfield Place, Upper Avenue, Eastbourne.

Samuel Howard Coombs, Lance Corporal, Royal Sussex Regiment who died on 12 July 1916.  Son of Samuel and Sarah Mary Coombs, of 163, New Park Rd., Streatham Hill, London.  In 1920 his parents lived in Glynde Avenue.

Basset Wright, Royal Fusiliers, died 20th July 1916, aged 26 of Westmead, Nevill Avenue, Son of Elizabeth Wright of Hartington Gardens.  Graduate of Oriel College, Oxford.

BULL, Alan, Army Service Corps, died 19 Oct 1917 aged 26, Balkans buried in Kalamaria.  Previously of 29 Glynde Avenue.

Private Henry Smith, 9th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment, Son of George and Emma Smith, of 1, Parks Terrace, Hampden Park, Killed in Action by a shell on 9th June 1916
